LXV | Example Promotion: Creating a % off When Spend Equals or Exceeds a Certain Amount

This guide outlines how to step up a retail promotion in LightSpeed to provide a percentage discount when a client spend is at or above a specified amount.


Steps to Create the Promotion

  1. Navigate to Catalog > Promotions.
  2. Click the Add promotion button in the top-right corner.
  3. Input Promotion Details:
    • Promotion Name: Provide a recognisable name for the promotion.
    • Promotion Description: Add a short description for clarity.
    • Date Range: Specify the dates for when the promotion will run.
    • Outlets: Choose the outlets where the promotion will apply. Selecting All Outlets will include any future outlets added to your account.
  4. Choose the promotion schedule:
    • One-time Promotion: Runs for a set period (Select a specific date range).
    • Recurring Promotion: Repeats weekly on a specific day over a defined period (Select the day, time, and duration).
  5. Set the Advanced Promotion Type:
    • Under the When a customer field, select Spends the following amount.
    • Enter the minimum amount customers need to spend to qualify for the discount.
  6. Choose Product applicability. Select All to apply the discount to all products. Select Specific to apply the discount to specific products only. Use the search bar to add the products. 
  7. Define the discount:
    • Under the Then they will field, select Save a certain amount.
    • Choose % to apply percentage discount or $ to apply a fixed dollar amount.
  8. Check the Show prompt on sell box to notify the user when the promotion applies during a transaction. 
  9. Specify availability. Select Available to everyone to make the promotion accessible to all customers. Alternatively, choose specific customer groups if applicable.
  10. Click Save to finalise the promotion setup.

7. Select which outlet you want this promotion to be applied to.

8. Click One-time Promotion.

9. Select Date range for the promotion.

10. Scroll down and click Advanced.

12. Type in the amount you want the customer to spend before the certain % discount be applied to.

13. Select "All" if it will be applicable to all items, or "Specific" if its for specific items only.

15. Select "%" to add percentage discount or "$" to add specific amount for the discount.

16. Make sure "Show prompt on sell" is checked to make sure the user will know there's a promotion for certain transaction.

17. Select "Available to everyone" if this promo will be available to all customer.

18. Scroll down and click Save

19. When the sales reach the certain amount to reach the promotion, it will show up like this.

Testing the promotion

To ensure the promotion applies correctly:

  1. Add product/s to the sale screen to meet or exceed the specified amount.
  2. Verify that the discount appears in the transaction summary.
