LXV | Example Promotion: Creating a % off a Product or Product Category

This guide outlines how to create a percentage discount on a specific product or a product category for retail transactions in Lightspeed. 


Example Promotion:

  • Promotion Name: "10% Off Chemicals"
  • Description: "Season Sale 2024"
  • Category Filter: "Chemicals"
  • Discount Applied: 10% off the retail price.

Steps to create the Promotion


1. Navigate to Products > Promotions 

2. Click Add Promotion.



3. Enter the Promotion details:

  • Name: Enter a promotion name e.g., 100% off chemicals
  • Description: Add a description for clarity, e.g., "Season Sale 2024".
  • Outlets: Select the outlets where this promotion will apply.


4. Schedule the Promotion

  • Select Type: Choose One-Time Promotion.
  • Set Date Range:
    • Choose a start and end date for the promotion, e.g., Friday, 25 October to Monday, 28 October.
    • Tip: Untick No End Date to enable setting an end date.
  • Click Apply.


5. Select the Type of Promotion

  • Choose type: Select the basic promotion type.
  • Set Discount: Enter the percentage discount, e.g., 10% or 15%.
  • Filter by Category or Product:
    • Click Specific to reveal a filter search bar.
    • Set the filter to Include and type the category or product name, e.g., "Chemicals" or "Equipment".
    • From the dropdown, select Category or another relevant filter.


6. Click Save at the top of the page.



Testing the Promotion

To ensure the promotion applies correctly:

  1. Add the discounted product/s to the sell screen.
  2. Confirm that the discount appears in the transactions summary.
