Update | Variant-only inventory management change (2024-10-04)

Starting this month, we will be moving to a variant-only inventory management approach across all ANZ network.


After carefully reviewing feedback from our network and evaluating our systems, we have determined that a variant-only approach offers several key advantages:

  1. Improved consistency: Managing only variant products eliminates the complexities associated with composite products, creating a more consistent and straightforward inventory management process across the network.
  2. Simplified stock transfers: A standardised variant-only system simplifies the process of transferring stock between outlets, reducing the likelihood of errors and improving overall efficiency.
  3. Direct stock management: You will now be able to manage and conduct stock takes directly on each variant, without needing to convert stock between composites and parent products. This will give you better control over inventory levels.

We are confident that this change will streamline your inventory processes, leading to improved operational efficiency and easier day-to-day management.

What does this change mean for my current product list?

  1. Field products: These products will now be variant products rather than composite products. Click here to learn more about product types in Lightspeed.
  2. Composite products:  You can still use composite products, but they are recommended only for “bundling” (eg. multi-packs) and not for fractional stock (eg. selling 1L from a 20L container).


When will my products be updated to variant-only?

For Franchises already live the Evolution Team is working through the transition process steps. You will be contacted about when and how to migrate to the hybrid setup.
