LXV | Creating a Single SKU Product

This guide outlines the procedures for creating a single SKU product in LightSpeed, ensuring accurate product setup and inventory management.


Prerequisites:

Info required:Product details, supplier details, and pricing information.
Access required:

LightSpeed system access.

Best Practices:

  • Ensure all product details are accurately entered into the system to maintain inventory accuracy.
  • Regularly review and update product information as needed.
  • Naming Convention: Use the format [Brand] [Product title] / [Sales Channel] / [Size].
    • Example: Vitalyse Chlorine Multi Slow Tab / Supplier / 25kg
    • Example: Vitalyse Chlorine Multi Slow Tab / Field / 1kg
  • Additional product categories should not be created. If a category does not exist that you require, please email evolution@poolwerx.com.au

Procedure:

  1. Open LightSpeed and navigate to Catalog > Products.
  2. Click "Add Product".
  3. Enter Product Information. As a minimum, enter/select the below despite them not being mandatory:
    • Name: Enter the product name. 
    • Product Category: Select a product category from the dropdown.
    • Sell on Point-of-Sale: Check the "Sell on point-of-sale" checkbox to make the product active and available for sales.
    • Product Type: Select “Standard Product”.
    • SKU Code: Select either Auto-generated for automatic SKU generation or Custom to enter your own SKU code. 
  4. Enter Supplier Information into supplied fields. 
    • Enter the Supplier Price to ensure accurate COGs ad GP Margin % calculations. 
  5. Inventory tracking:
    • "Track inventory for this product" is enabled by default. To disable inventory tracking, deselect the checkbox (this will set the inventory to infinite).
  6. Determine your Sales Price (Retail Price):
    • Markup: The amount added to supplier cost to determine the retail price.
    • Margin: The profit you make on the item after deducting supplier costs. 
    • Retail Price: The price the product will be sold at in your business, including tax. You can set the retail Price manually or by entering the margin or markup percentage. 
  7. Click 'Save'


Note: The product will sync to Vital, typically within 15minutes.
