Overview of Promotions in LightSpeed
Promotions allow you to offer targets discounts tailored to:
- Specific products or product categories.
- All customers or exclusive customer groups.
- Specific outlets or locations.
Promotions can be as basic as applying a percentage or dollar-value discounts for a defined period or on a recurring schedule, or advanced as spend a certain amount and receive product/s free or at a discounted %.
Important Note
Promotions in LightSpeed do not sync or apply to Vital Field transactions. To offer discounts in the field setting, use Price Books.
Setting up Promotions
- Navigate to Catalog > Promotions.
- Click the Add promotion button at the top right.
- Input Promotion Details:
- Promotion Name: Provide a recognisable name for the promotion.
- Promotion Description: Add a short description for clarity.
- Choose the Dates: Specify the start and end dates for the promotion.
- Select Outlets: Assign the promotion to specific outlets or choose "All Outlets" to apply to all locations, including any future outlets added.
- Set the promotion schedule:
- One-time Promotion: Runs for a specific date range.
- Recurring Promotion: Repeats weekly on a specific day over a set period (Define day, time, and duration).
- Choose the type of promotion:
- Basic: Applies a percentage or dollar discount to products.
- Advanced: Offers more complex configuration options.
- Set the Discount: Depending on the type of promotion.
Target the Promotion:
- Available to everyone: Applies to all customers.
- Exclusive to some: Targets specific customer groups or requires a promo code.
Enable Promotion Prompt (advanced Promotions). Note:
- The first applicable promotion will display based on the cart, potential savings, and creation date.
- Tailor which promotions display by toggling prompts on or off.
Click Save to add the promotion to your list.
Testing the Promotion
To ensure the promotion applies correctly:
- Add the discounted product or customer to the sell screen.
- Confirm that the discount appears in the transactions summary.
Rules for Overlapping Promotions
- If two basic promotions overlap, the larger discount applied.
- Advanced promotions take precedence over basic promotions, even if the discount is smaller.
- When two advanced promotions overlap, the first promotion met will apply.
