IT Hardware ANZ - How to reset your Telstra NBN modem

If you are with Telstra NBN, then this is how to do a factory reset of your modem as this often resolves all kinds of connectivity issues.  A factory reset is a quarterly requirement.

If you don’t have time, there are instructions on T.com to help you : Go to Telstra.com>business>support>Internet and office phones> How to backup, reset or restore your V7610 modem for customers with system admin

Now let’s help you do a factory reset on your modem:

Connect to the Gateway Pro via Wi-Fi (if possible) or directly via an ethernet cable to one of the yellow LAN ports labelled 1-4 at the back of your modem.

Then using an internet browser go to http://192.168.15.1 to access your Gateway Pro Control Panel

We’ll go through some steps together:

  1.  Login to your V7610 router with your user router credentials.
  2. Click on the ‘Advanced’ tab and then click on ‘Administration’.
  3. Select ‘Backup Settings’.
  4. Select ‘Save a copy of current settings’ and save to USB or laptop.
  5. Now return to your modem and insert a paper clip (or something of a similar size) into the reset hole.
  6.  Hold the paper clip in for 10 seconds until all the lights on the front panel of your modem start flashing and then release the paper clip.
  7. Check the router internet connectivity. If the light is green then internet connectivity is restored.
  8. If connectivity is restored, then log in to Telstra Gateway Pro Control panel again (using instructions above) and return to ‘Backup Settings’.
  9. Under ‘Restore saved settings from a file’ select ‘Choose file’.
  10. Select the file you previously saved to a laptop or USB and then select ‘Restore’.

Now you’ll need to login again using the default login. I can help you with that too:

  1. On your computer or tablet, connect to your Wi-Fi home network
  2. Open a web browser; Chrome, Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari
  3. Enter the correct URL and IP address for your modem:
    • For ADSL/cable/nbn compatible modems with an adapter – enter http://10.0.0.138 or http://telstra.gateway/
    • For cable modems without adapter - enter http://192.166.0.1 or http://telstra.gateway/
    • For Telstra Smart Modem™ or Telstra Gateway Frontier® enter http://192.168.0.1 or http://mygateway/
  1. Sign in to the control panel. The username is admin and the default password is Telstra for Telstra Smart Modem 1.1 and Gen 2. For Telstra Smart Modem Gen 3, the password is the same as the Wi-Fi password found on the bottom of your modem
  2. Choose Wi-Fi from the menu at the top of the screen
  3. Enter your changes into the Wi-Fi Name (SSID) and Wi-Fi Security Key fields
  4. Select Apply to save the changes.

That should resolve the issues you’ve been having.
